Is August a Good Time to Visit Grand Teton National Park?

August is a good month to visit Grand Teton National Park if you want warm days, full access to all areas of the park, and some of the best hiking conditions of the year. Alpine trails are fully open, wildflowers still linger in higher elevations, and wildlife remains active across valleys and mountains. Long daylight hours make it easy to explore from sunrise to sunset.

The downside? August is one of the busiest months, so expect crowds at popular spots like Jenny Lake, String Lake, and Mormon Row.

With careful planning and early starts, you can enjoy stunning scenery, active wildlife, and everything the park has to offer during peak summer. But it does take planning.

Pros

  • Full access to all areas
  • Excellent hiking conditions
  • Warm, stable weather
  • Active wildlife
  • Long daylight hours

Cons

  • Crowds are at their highest
  • Parking can be difficult at popular areas
  • Afternoon thunderstorms are possible
  • Lodging and campsites fill quickly
