There are several airports near Grand Teton National Park.  In order of travel time from the park, they are:

What is the closest major airport to Grand Teton National Park?  Jackson Hole Airport is the closest airport to Grand Teton National Park. In fact, the airport is INSIDE the national park, making it the only commercial airport inside a national park in the United States.  It’s hard to get closer than that! 

However, while it is generally considered the best airport for Grand Teton National Park, it isn’t the only option and may in fact not be the best choice for your particular trip.

Travel time to Grand Teton National Park: 10 minutes to Moose Entrance

Best for:  

  • If you have more limited time

Idaho Falls Regional Airport is one of the larger regional airports with a reasonable selection of flights and several airlines and car rental agencies.  It’s also closer to the national park (and Jackson, where most accommodation is) than most of the airports listed here.

Travel time to Grand Teton National Park: 2 hours 10 minutes to Moose Entrance

  • If you’re staying in Jackson, Teton Village, or the southern part of the park and want a fairly short drive time to get there 

Central Wyoming Regional Airport (RIW)

Central Wyoming Regional Airport is a small airport, but it’s the closest airport to the northern section of Grand Teton National Park other than Jackson Hole Airport.

Travel time to Grand Teton National Park: 2 hours 10 minutes to Moran Entrance 

What airlines fly out of Central Wyoming Regional Airport?

  • If you want to save time by having less driving distance and are staying in the northern part of the national park 

(West) Yellowstone Airport (WYS)

West Yellowstone

(West) Yellowstone Airport is a small airport just outside West Yellowstone, which is just outside the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park.  Flying there makes sense if you’re going to visit Yellowstone as well as Grand Teton.

Distance to Grand Teton National Park: 98 miles 
Travel time to Grand Teton National Park:  2 hours 20 minutes to Moran Entrance

Yellowstone Regional Airport is located in Cody, a quintessential Wild West town.  Stop over and visit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and Old Trail Town to live out your Western movie fantasies.  Then head over to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. 

Location: Cody, WY 
Distance to Grand Teton National Park: 150 miles 
Travel time to Grand Teton National Park: 3 hours and 30 minutes to the Moran Entrance

  • United – Denver 
  • Delta/ Skywest – Salt Lake City; Denver

Salt Lake City International Airport is a major airport with plenty of flight options and a variety of airlines to choose from, making connections easier to find.  You will fly through Salt Lake City for connections to many of the smaller regional airports listed here, and you may prefer to rent a car and drive from here rather than taking another short flight in a smaller plane.

  • It’s the farthest of the airports listed here from the national park

Best for:

  • If you don’t want to fly in a small plane for a short connecting flight to a regional airport 
  • If you’re planning to do a road trip and want a cheaper car rental (or more options)

How to Decide What’s The Best Grand Teton National Park Airport 

Where to fly into for Grand Teton will depend on the specifics of your trip.  Some things to consider are: 

  • Where else are you planning to go on your trip?
    Are you also visiting Yellowstone National ParkGlacier National ParkRocky Mountain National Park?  Some airports are more convenient to those other parks or provide easy access to them. 
  • When are you going?
    For some airports, the shortest route to Grand Teton is through Yellowstone National Park on roads that are closed in winter.  Also, some flights are only offered in the high season.  
  • Where are you staying when visiting Grand Teton?
    Choosing an airport near your lodging or campground may make the most sense. 
  • How much time do you have?
    Your travel time from the airport will be more important if you have less time available for your trip.
  • What’s your budget?
    Flight and/ or car rental prices can vary quite a bit between airports. 
  • Do you have a frequent flyer program with a specific airline?
    Most of these airports have limited airlines flying into them. 
  • Where are you flying from?
    The larger airports have more connecting flights, which can affect your decision depending on where you are flying from.
  • What type of car do you want to rent when you arrive?
    Is there a specific car rental agency you want to use? The selection of rental cars available can vary a lot between airports.
