Most ranger programs, campgrounds, visitor centers, restaurants, tours, and shuttle services have stopped operating. Fortunately, many of the park’s most famous roads and viewpoints are usually still accessible during November, weather permitting.
This makes November an interesting transition month. Early in the month may feel like a cold extension of fall, while late November can bring genuine winter conditions.
What Is the Weather Like in Acadia in November?
Weather in Acadia National Park in November is cool, damp, and changeable. Average daytime temperatures around Mount Desert Island are generally in the 40s°F, while overnight temperatures frequently fall into the low 30s°F.
Typical conditions include:
- Average highs around 45°F–48°F
- Average lows around 30°F–34°F
- Cold rain and strong coastal wind
- Frost during the morning and overnight
- Occasional sleet or snow
- Ice on exposed granite and shaded trails
- Rapidly changing visibility along the coast
The combination of moisture and wind can make it feel much colder than the temperature suggests. A calm 45°F afternoon can be comfortable for hiking, while the same temperature with rain and strong wind can feel bitterly cold.
November snow is possible, but long-lasting accumulation is less predictable at lower elevations. Cadillac Mountain and Acadia’s other peaks may receive snow or freezing rain while roads closer to sea level remain wet.

Daylight hours are limited in Acadia National Park in November. At the beginning of the month, the park has approximately ten hours of daylight. By the end, that drops to a little more than nine hours.
Following the end of daylight saving time, sunset occurs shortly after 4:00 PM and gradually moves earlier. Sunrise is generally between approximately 6:15 AM and 6:50 AM.
Plan to complete hikes and scenic drives well before dark. Keep a headlamp in your daypack, even if you only intend to take a short walk.

Most peak foliage has finished before November begins. Strong coastal winds and late-autumn storms usually remove many of the remaining leaves from Acadia’s deciduous trees.

Park Loop Road
Most of Park Loop Road is normally open through November, weather permitting. Its regular winter closure generally begins on December 1, although temporary closures can occur earlier during storms.
This means you can usually drive to major destinations such as:
- Sand Beach

- Jordan Pond
- Bubble Pond
- Cadillac Mountain
A section of Ocean Drive generally remains open throughout winter, but you should not assume that every part of the loop will be accessible after snow or ice.
Park Loop Road includes one-way sections. Follow posted signs rather than relying exclusively on a navigation app.

Cadillac Summit Road
Cadillac Summit Road is normally open during November until its scheduled seasonal closure, but access depends entirely on weather. Snow, freezing rain, ice, or strong winds may cause a temporary closure.
Vehicle reservations for Cadillac Summit Road are not normally required in November because the reservation season ends earlier in the fall. You still need a valid park entrance pass.
Do not build your entire day around reaching the summit. Check the road status before driving up and have an accessible coastal alternative ready.
If the road is open, expect colder and windier conditions at the summit than in Bar Harbor. Ice can form even when lower roads are only wet.

Schoodic Peninsula
Schoodic Loop Road is generally open throughout the year, although severe weather can create temporary closures. This quieter section of Acadia offers dramatic granite shoreline, ocean views, and considerably fewer visitors than Mount Desert Island.
Services are extremely limited in November. Fill your gas tank, bring food and water, and check conditions before making the drive.

The Island Explorer Shuttle
The free Island Explorer shuttle does not operate in November. Its regular service finishes earlier in the fall.

Parking is rarely difficult in November, but you must still use designated spaces. Do not park along narrow roads or block seasonal gates.
Carriage Roads
