Acadia National Park in June: What To Expect

June is when Acadia National Park really starts to come alive.

The days are long. The trails are fully open. And the island feels vibrant after the quiet of spring.

If youโ€™re thinking about visiting Acadia National Park in June, youโ€™re probably hoping for beautiful weather, great hiking conditions, and plenty of daylight to explore the park. And in many ways, June delivers exactly that. But itโ€™s also the month when visitors begin arriving in larger numbersโ€”and a few seasonal quirks are still worth planning around.

June is best for travelers who want great hiking weather, scenic coastal views, and access to nearly everything the park offersโ€”while still catching the tail end of the shoulder season before July crowds peak. And sunrise from Cadillac Mountain in June can be absolutely spectacular, especially with the long summer daylight stretching your time in the park.

Below, Iโ€™ll walk through what the weather is like, whatโ€™s open, what crowds look like, and how to plan your visit so June works in your favor.

The weather in and around Acadia National Park is lovely in June, in general. This a great month for hiking – humidity levels are generally moderate, temperatures are pleasant (ranging from 50ยฐF to 70ยฐF) and there’s a mix of sunny days and occasional rain showers.

Whatโ€™s Open in Acadia National Park in June?

Things have opened up for the summer season in June.

The Roads

The Park Loop Road, which loops through the main Mount Desert Island area of the park and contains many of the park’s highlights, is fully open (weather permitting). However, parking lots fill quickly by mid-morning later in the month.

Vehicle reservations are required for the road to the summit of Cadillac Mountain (typically late May through October).

The carriage roads are fully open and ideal for biking. Wildflowers are often blooming along the routes.

All major trails are accessible and trail conditions are generally dry and stable compared to early spring. The Precipice Trail typically reopens mid-to-late June after peregrine falcon nesting closures.

Bar Harbor

Restaurants, shops, and tours are fully operational.

Whale watching tours typically begin running regularly.

Sailing trips also have their full schedule. You can book a sailing trip on the Windjammer here.

Services and Campgrounds

All campgrounds, accommodations, visitor centers, beaches, tours, Jordan Pond House, etc. are open in June.

Is June a good time to visit Acadia National Park?

Yes. June is arguably the best time to go to Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park. The early part of the month can be buggy still, though the bugs are usually done by the middle of the month. Everything is open, the trees are green and the summer crowds have not yet descended on the area.

So, for many travelers, June is one of the best months to visit Acadia National Park. But there are some cons:

Pros

  • Warm, comfortable hiking temperatures
  • Long daylight hours (sunset after 8:00 PM)
  • Nearly all park services open
  • Lush green landscapes
  • Great time for biking and boating

Cons

  • Increasing crowds, especially late in the month
  • Parking can be competitive at popular trailheads
  • Ocean water remains very cold
  • Cadillac Mountain reservations required
