June in Glacier National Park is a transition into summer โ snow is melting, waterfalls are at their most powerful, and access to the park expands week by week.
However, itโs not quite full summer yet. Higher elevations are still snow-covered, and the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road may not be fully open until late June or even early July, depending on snowpack.
If youโre flexible and donโt mind some limitations, June is a beautiful time to visit, with fewer crowds than peak summer and some of the most dramatic scenery of the year.
Hereโs what you can realistically expect when visiting Glacier in June.

Head to Glacier National Park in June and you can expect to experience one of the warmer months. The Glacier National Park temperature in June is comparable to September, and only July and August are hotter.
While Glacier National Park in early June is colder than the weather later in the month, very low temperatures are now unlikely, even overnight. Throughout the last month of spring here, you can expect temperatures between 39ยฐF (4ยฐC) and 61ยฐF (16ยฐC) on average.

Whatโs Open in Glacier National Park in June?
June is a transition month in Glacier National Park, and whatโs open depends heavily on snow conditions and plowing progress โ especially at higher elevations.
Hereโs what you can generally expect:
Park Entrances
All main entrances are typically open in June, including West Glacier on the west side of the Going to the Sun Road, St. Mary on the east side of the Going to the Sun Road, Many Glacier (northeast corner of the park); and Two Medicine (southeast corner of the park).
Hours may vary early in the month, so itโs smart to confirm current entry information before arriving.
GoingโtoโtheโSun Road
Many roads are now open; however the GoingโtoโtheโSun Road is usually partially open in June.
The Going-to-the-Sun road generally opens in late June, though this is of course weather-dependent. It can take up to three months to plow this famous scenic route!
In early June, the road is still closed at Logan Pass due to snow. Sections progressively open as plowing continues mid-to-late June. The road fully opens in late June or early July (it varies each year).
You can usually drive significant portions from both sides of the park โ just not fully across the Continental Divide early in the month.
Always check the parkโs official road status page for real-time updates.
Glacier Hiking Trails in June
Most lower elevation trails are open and accessible, including Avalanche Lake and the Trail of the Cedars, the Lake McDonald shoreline, and the Many Glacier and Two Medicine valley trails.
However, trail conditions may be muddy due to snowmelt.
Alpine trails near Logan Pass are often snow-covered in early June (and inaccessible because the road there is still closed), including the Highline Trail, Hidden Lake Overlook and the upper sections of Grinnell Glacier. Some may begin opening later in the month, depending on snowpack, but I wouldn’t count on it.
Visitor Centers
Several visitor centers typically open in phases throughout June. Opening dates vary yearly based on snow conditions.
The Apgar Visitor Center is usually open.
The St. Mary Visitor Center often opens mid-to-late June.
The Logan Pass Visitor Center opens when GoingโtoโtheโSun Road fully opens, so usually early July.
Boat Tours & Services in Glacier in June
Lake McDonald boat tours often begin operating in June.
St. Mary and Many Glacier boat tours typically start mid-to-late June.
