However, it’s a small regional and seasonal airport, so options are limited. It only operates from late May to late September and only has flights with two airlines from two connecting cities.

3. Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport
Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) is the closest airport to the North Entrance. Since this is the only entrance to the park that is open and accessible for regular vehicular traffic in winter, if you’re visiting Yellowstone in winter in winter, then this is the best airport to fly into Yellowstone. It has a good range of flights and plenty of car rental options. It’s even possible to pick up/ drop off here and drop off/ pickup at another Yellowstone airport such as Jackson Hole so you don’t need to double back.

4. Yellowstone Regional Airport
Yellowstone Regional Airport (COD/ YRA) in Cody, WY is a small regional airport that is open year-round. However, the road to both the East Entrance and the Northeast Entrance are closed in winter, so this airport is mostly used to access the park in the warmer months.
If you’re flying into Yellowstone in winter, there is one operator who runs over-snow trips into the park in winter from the East Entrance (most operate from West Yellowstone or Gardiner near the North Entrance).

5. Salt Lake City International Airport
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is the closest major airport to Yellowstone Park. It’s not super close – it’s well over four hours away – but it has lots of connecting flights. You can connect through here to closer smaller airports, but it is also possible to pick up a rental car and drive all the way.
With more than 350 daily departures, with 93 direct connections including international flights to Amsterdam, and five Mexican destinations, there are lots of flights to choose from.
Because there are so many flights and car rental options, they tend to be cheaper than the smaller airports. There are also several budget car rental companies that aren’t available in the smaller airports. If you’re planning a national parks road trip, this is a good option.

Denver International Airport (DEN) in Colorado is quite far from Yellowstone, but it has the most connecting flights, plenty of car rental options, and is a good choice if you are planning to fly in for a road trip that includes Rocky Mountain National Park.
Unless you plan to of a big loop, you could pick up or drop off a car here and drop off/ pick it up at another airport and fly in or out of somewhere different, so you don’t need to double back.

7. Billings-Logan International Airport (BIL)
Billings-Logan International Airport (BIL) is the second largest airport in Montana and is classified as an international airport, but it’s not that big and there are no direct international flights. However, it is serviced by several major domestic carriers and a couple of small regional airlines, with a total of about 30 flights each day.
The route to the Northeast Entrance goes along the spectacular Beartooth Highway and over Beartooth Pass. This is one of the most stunning drives in the country; however, it is closed in winter, so you can’t access the Northeast Entrance from this direction between October and May (dates can change depending on the snowfall).

Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA) is not too far from the West Entrance to Yellowstone, which is a central place to stay and access the park. The West Entrance to Yellowstone isn’t open to regular vehicular traffic in winter, but West Yellowstone is a major gateway to over-snow travel in Yellowstone in winter and since West Yellowstone Regional Airport is closed in winter, this is a good winter option.
It’s the second biggest airport in Idaho and has flights year-round. There are more flights here than there are to West Yellowstone and more airlines fly there, which means that flights may be cheaper in summer.
