What’s the weather in July in Mount Rainier National Park?

You can expect clearer skies during this time of the year with minimal fog and more favorable trail visibility. Mt. Rainier in July is fairly cool with highs ranging from the 60s to 70s. Average lows are around the low to mid-50s.

July is one of the driest months, so clear skies are common and this is the best month for seeing Mount Rainier fully visible, though clouds can still roll in, of course.

Always check the weather at the location youโ€™re heading to because weather conditions may differ from one area of the park to another.

Whatโ€™s Open in Mount Rainier in July?

All major visitor centers and services are fully operational.

This is the first time of year when you can fully explore the entire park by car.

Paradise: Paradise is open. Most trails are snow-free by mid-to-late July. Early July may still have patchy snow at higher elevations, so wear hiking boots and take microspikes if youโ€™re planning to go on longer hikes like the Skyline Trail.

โžก๏ธ Read my Buying Guide to the Best Hiking Boots and Buying Guide to the Best Microspikes for Hiking if youโ€™re looking to buy some.

Longmire: Open year-round.

Sunrise Area: The popular Sunrise region opens once road is cleared of snow. This means that it opens late June or even early July.

Stevens Canyon Road: Is open in July.

Lower Elevation Hiking Trails: Lower elevation trails are typically snow-free in July. These include:

๐Ÿฅพ Trail of the Shadows
๐Ÿฅพ Grove of the Patriarchs (status can vary year to year)
๐Ÿฅพ Nisqually Vista (may still have snow early June)

Wildflowers in July

July is famous for its wildflower displays. This is one of the most iconic wildflower seasons in U.S. national parks.

The meadows at Paradise and Sunrise burst into color. Expect lupine, paintbrush, avalanche lilies, and more.

Peak bloom typically occurs mid-to-late July through early August, depending on snowmelt timing.

Wildlife in July

Wildlife is active throughout the park in July.

Marmots and pikas are common in alpine areas. Deer and elk can be seen in meadows and forests.

Bird activity is high during summer months.

Animals are easier to spot in early morning or evening.

Campgrounds & Lodging

In-Park Lodging

There are two lodges inside the park and both are open in June.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ National Park Inn (Longmire): Is open year-round.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Paradise Inn: Is open in July (It typically opens mid- to late May, depending on snow conditions.)

Campgrounds

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Cougar Rock Campground is open in July (late May to late September).
๐Ÿ•๏ธ Ohanapecosh Campground is open in July (late May to late September).

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Mowich Lake Campground is open early July to early October.

Backcountry camping is limited and requires permits โ€” snow travel skills are essential.
