Grand Canyon National Park in June: What to Expect

June in Grand Canyon National Park marks the start of the busy summer season. All areas of the park are open, including both the South Rim and North Rim, long daylight hours allow for extended exploring, and warm temperatures make rim walks and scenic viewpoints especially enjoyable.

However, June also brings rising crowds and increasingly hot temperatures inside the canyon, so planning ahead and starting hikes early in the day is essential.

Hereโ€™s what you can realistically expect when visiting the Grand Canyon in June.

Visiting Grand Canyon in June

Aerial view of the river forming "S" surrounded by red rock mountains in Grand Canyon National Park.

With clear skies, long days, warm weather, numerous outdoor activities, and full access to park services, June is one of the most popular months to experience the Grand Canyon.

What’s the Weather in Grand Canyon in June?

The weather in June is warming up. Temperatures vary a lot depending on where you are.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ South Rim average temperatures range from 47 to 81ยฐF (but some days get into the 100s!)
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Inner canyon daily average temperatures are between 72ยฐF and 101ยฐF.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ North Rim is cooler, with daily average temperatures between 40ยฐF and 73ยฐF.

So hiking on the north and south rims is still pleasant (mostly), but if you’re hiking below the rim, you really need to be prepared with plenty of water, electrolytes and sun protection. Begin hikes early, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks in the shade to avoid heat-related problems.

June’s clear skies and minimal light pollution create fantastic stargazing conditions, especially at the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, an International Dark Sky Park.

Itโ€™s also an ideal time to witness the blooming of various cactus species, such as the iconic saguaro and prickly pear, adding vibrant colors to the arid landscape and presenting excellent photography opportunities.
