The Best National Parks by Month

One of the most common questions I get is:  โ€œWhatโ€™s the best time to visit the national parks?โ€

The honest answer?

There isnโ€™t one best time – because different parks shine at different moments of the year.

Some parks are magical only in winter. Others donโ€™t fully open until summer. Desert parks are unbearable in July but perfect in November. And a few parks hit a brief, glorious sweet spot that lasts just weeks.

This month-by-month guide breaks down which U.S. national parks are truly at their best each month – and why.

Whether youโ€™re chasing wildlife, wildflowers, waterfalls, fall color, or just fewer crowds, there is a perfect month for you.
