The Best National Parks in April
1. Zion National Park
Zion National Park is known for its towering sandstone cliffs, narrow slot canyons, and dramatic desert-meets-river scenery. From iconic hikes like Angels Landing to riverside walks along the Virgin River, Zion offers some of the most accessible jaw-dropping landscapes in the Southwest.
April is an excellent time to visit Zion because temperatures are comfortable for hiking before the intense summer heat sets in. Days are warm but not scorching, and mornings and evenings are ideal for longer hikes.
Spring runoff also brings seasonal waterfalls to life, especially along the canyon walls. The Virgin River is often flowing strongly, which adds drama to the scenery and makes riverside hikes especially scenic.

2. Grand Canyon National Park
The Grand Canyon is one of the most iconic landscapes in the world, with immense scale, layered geology, and endless viewpoints along the South Rim. Whether youโre hiking below the rim or enjoying scenic overlooks, the park is unforgettable.
April is one of the best months of the year to visit because temperatures are ideal for hiking โ especially below the rim. Summer heat can be dangerous on inner-canyon trails, but April offers much safer and more comfortable conditions.
The South Rim is fully accessible, while the North Rim remains closed, keeping crowds more concentrated but still manageable. Snow is usually gone from most popular viewpoints and trails.

April is one of the best months of the year here. Temperatures are warm but not oppressive, making hiking and scenic drives comfortable throughout the day.
Spring rains often trigger desert wildflowers, adding pops of color beneath the saguaros. The saguaro cacti blooms usually reach their peak in late March – early April in the park.

April offers cooler temperatures that make dune hiking far more comfortable than in summer, when the sand can become dangerously hot.
Late April can also mark the beginning of Medano Creekโs seasonal flow, depending on snowpack. This shallow, flowing creek creates a unique beach-like experience at the base of the dunes.
